2017 Field Paper Show Recap
The C3D team enjoyed an afternoon of perusing fresh paper samples and new printing techniques at the 2017 Field Paper Show.
Paper shows are a great opportunity for our creative team to see what’s out there so that we can choose the best (and most cost effective) paper or printing for our clients. We usually end up leaving the paper show with ideas that are larger than our client budgets, but sometimes it is fun to dream.
As always, we left with a bag full of swatch books, posters, and other Field Paper swag that our designers look forward to each year!
This year marked my third time attending the Field Paper Show, and I hope it can continue for years to come. One of my favorite parts about the event is listening to the keynote speaker address the audience of Omaha designers and creatives.
While I am not a print designer from 8-5, I always glean something valuable from listening to these thought leaders discuss the state of trends, technology, and disruption in the print world.
This year's speaker was Trish Witkowski from Fold Factory.
Trish is a marketing consultant and direct mail expert with 20 years of experience with technical folding and print design. Fold Factory, the company she represents, provides direct marketers with custom folding templates, specialty dielines, folding ideas, videos, resources and more. Her video series "60-Second Super Cool Fold of the Week" is one that has gone viral by grabbing the attention of vendors, printers, and designers across the web.
Trish relied heavily on video and animations within her presentation to illustrate how simple even some of the most complex folds can be. These visuals along with her general excitement for print and extreme attention to detail made for an informative talk.
The audience response was positive, too. Throughout her presentation many "oohs" and "aahs" could be heard as she revealed the secrets to her favorite folds. One thing is for sure, I left this year's paper show with a new appreciation for the art of folding paper.
